According to the U.S. census of 2010, 14.5% of Palm Beach County residents are considered to be in poverty. This number only includes those who completed the census when in actuality that number is close to 30%. Project Downtown West Palm Beach was started to serve food for those in need.
Project Downtown (PD) is a student run community service organization that serves over a dozen cities. Our mission is to provide essential services for homeless and disadvantaged segments of our community. The organization strives to uphold the principles and spirit of Islam in our endeavors. We believe we can promote a positive image of Islam through such social work and adherence to Islamic ideals. We welcome ALL to join us in providing compassionate, humanitarian services to those in desperate need. When asked why we are doing this, our answer is the same as that found in the Qur’an: “We feed you for the sake of God alone, no reward do we seek, nor thanks.” (Holy Quran,76:9).
There are many ways in which you can help that include, but are not limited to:
Volunteering: If you would like to assist in the serving of the meals, we meet on the first Sunday of every month at Currie Park (2400 N Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach, FL 33407) at 12pm. If you plan on attending please RSVP here.
Becoming a Sponsor: If you would like to sponsor a meal, please contact Talha Cheema (561-758-5214) or Maria Essani (954-487-0648) for more information. We ask for a $150 donation that covers the cost of the food served.
Donating: If you are unable to sponsor a meal and would like to donate, you may do so by clicking this link here. Every penny counts!
If you have any further inquiries please don’t hesitate to reply to this email or contact Talha Cheema or Maria Essani. We thank you for all your efforts, and Inshallah Allah (SWT) rewards us all. Ameen.
